The screenwriters are still on strike in America, meaning the future of all streaming services and television shows is currently hanging precariously in the balance. Those shows that have been confirmed as upcoming are often having release dates pushed back, and as such it is difficult to say what we will see when. All of that said, Netflix has already announced some interesting new projects coming in the latter part of 2023 and 2024, as well as new seasons for some old favourites. These are the shows we are looking forward to seeing:

The Night Agent: Season 2:

The Night Agent is an action-thriller series on Netflix. The series centres on Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), a low-level FBI agent working the White House’s Night Action room. When he answers a phone call from Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), the trajectory of both of their lives changes and they’re suddenly mixed into a political conspiracy with wide-ranging impacts on their personal lives and national security. As spy series go, this is an excellent one, with top-quality acting, plenty of cleverly revealed twists and more than one unexpected death. Along with the renewal for season 2, Netflix already revealed that the second season would contain 10 episodes and be released sometime in 2024.

Vikings: Valhalla: Season 3

Vikings: Valhalla is a historical drama television series created by Jeb Stuart for Netflix. It is a spin-off of Vikings, which aired to huge acclaim on History Channel and can be found in SA on Netflix as well.

The series is set in the early 11th century and begins roughly one hundred years after we and the other show left off, with the St Brice’s Day massacre. King Aethelred (Bosco Hogan) orders the slaughter of every Dane in England in retaliation for their fellow Norsemen’s propensity for raiding his kingdom over the preceding years and King Canute (Bradley Freegard) immediately starts gathering a vengeful Viking army at Kattegat and prepares to go to war, aided by Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter). If you enjoyed the original this one is sure to please, offering all the grim past, bloody battles and political intrigues of the first series. As a mindless distraction at a difficult time, it is hard to beat. The third season of Vikings: Valhalla is set to be released in 2024.

Wednesday: Season 2

Wednesday is an American supernatural horror streaming television series created by Al Gough and Miles Millar for Netflix. Based on the characters created by Charles Addams, the show follows a now-teenaged Wednesday Addams, deftly played by Jenna Ortega, as a student at Nevermore Academy. The school is run by an icily unsettling headteacher Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie), who chose to make her new charge roommate with peppy student Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers).  While the show does lose something of the charm of the films, by not setting Wednesday against a purely normal world, and lessening the impact of the other Addamses (Addamsi?) it is nonetheless a delightful bit of escapist TV. The first season premiered on October 6, 2022, and was well-received by critics and audiences alike. The second season should be coming sometime in early 2024.

The Lincoln Lawyer: Season 3

The Lincoln Lawyer is an upcoming American legal drama streaming television series created by David E. Kelley for Netflix. It is based on the novel of the same name by Michael Connelly and follows Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), an iconoclastic idealist who runs his law practice out of his Lincoln Town Car as he takes on cases big and small across Los Angeles County. It is, let’s be blunt, beginning-to-end nonsense in the style of all the best 80s action, drama series. The dialogue is terrible, the stories shallow and yet there is something endearingly escapist about the whole thing, which has made it a worldwide success. Season three is due in early 2024.

Heartstopper: Season 3

Described by The Guardian, as being “possibly the loveliest show on TV”, Heartstopper is a British romantic comedy-drama based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series Heartstopper. The series follows Charlie Spring (Kit Connor), a gay student at an all-boys grammar school who begins to develop feelings for his classmate Nick Nelson (Joe Locke). Even if something this cheesy, doesn’t sound like the kind of thing you would usually watch, we urge you to try. This comic book fantasy about LGBTQ+ teenagers manages to soften even the gruffest hearts with its relentlessly optimist and upbeat tone. There is something altogether lovely about watching a show that’s as filled with warmth as this one is. Season two just released to great acclaim and season three is expected in early to mid 2024.
